The Los Angeles Chargers are entering the offseason in a much better financial situation than they were at this time last year. With over $66 million in cap space per Over The Cap, the Chargers have a chance to bolster the roster through free agency and the trade market.
Before they can make a big splash in free agency, they need to make tough decisions on their own players. Perhaps the biggest decision involves star pass-rusher Khalil Mack. The veteran defender made his third straight Pro Bowl in 2024, continuing his streak since arriving in Los Angeles. He wasn't the wrecking ball that he was in 2023, but Mack still finished with six sacks, 15 QB hits, and six tackles for loss in 16 games.
Even though he just turned 34, Mack will almost certainly receive a big contract this offseason. He has been healthy and productive over the last three years. In fact, Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh hasn't been shy about his desire to keep him around.

Jim Harbaugh Pleads With Chargers GM to Re-Sign Khalil Mack
Harbaugh and Chargers GM Joe Hortiz were guests on The Pat McAfee Show. When Hortiz was asked about Mack's free agency, Harbaugh interrupted him and told him to "pay the man".
Harbaugh's desire to keep Mack is certainly understandable. The Bolts allowed the fewest points of any team in the NFL last season and the star pass rusher was a big reason why. Hortiz has spoken highly of Mack recently and all signs point to the 34-year-old's return to LA.
Opposite Mack on the defensive line is Joey Bosa. The Chargers made the unexpected decision to retain both players last season. Bosa is still under contract for another season but carries a cap hit of $36.4 million. Whether the Chargers bring the two veterans back on the edge for one more season remains to be seen.
