Amidst the devastating wildfires that engulfed the city of Los Angeles over the last week, the Lakers had two games postponed. They are returning to court on Monday against the San Antonio Spurs.

The Lakers are hosting a donation drive at home games to support relief efforts, starting on Monday. Collection bins will be placed outside Crypto.com Arena to accept donations.

On Monday, the team will also honor an all-time great. Five-time NBA champion and Hall of Famer Michael Cooper will have his jersey retired by the Lakers during the halftime of the Spurs matchup.

NBA News: Lakers Retire Michael Cooper's Jersey on Monday

The Los Angeles Lakers only retire the jerseys of players who have made the Hall of Fame. Now that Cooper was inducted with the Class of 2024, the Lakers wasted no time honoring one of their franchise icons.

Cooper will be the 13th Laker ever to have his jersey retired. The list includes Kobe Bryant, Wilt Chamberlain, Pau Gasol, Elgin Baylor, Gail Goodrich, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O'Neal, James Worthy, Jerry West, Jamaal Wilkes, and George Mikan.

Cooper was an integral part of the Showtime Lakers. Spending his entire 12-year career in Los Angeles, Cooper didn't miss a single game between 1982 and 1987 while establishing himself as one of the best defensive players in the league.

An elite perimeter defender, Cooper made eight All-Defensive teams and won the 1987 Defensive Player of the Year award. Despite coming off the bench for most of his career and only averaging over 10 points twice, Cooper firmly established himself as a crucial piece for one of the most important teams in NBA history.
