After a rather uneventful offseason, the Los Angeles Lakers will tip off the 2024-25 NBA regular season tonight against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

As always, there will be many eyes on the Lakers to see what they do this season with a new head coach (JJ Redick) and the Olympic duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. For James, this will be his 21st season in the NBA, which is incredible to think about as he’s still playing at a high level.

LeBron will be joined by his son Bronny James, who was drafted in the second round by the Lakers in the 2024 NBA Draft. LeBron re-signed with Los Angeles this summer on a two-year, $101.36 max contract, which includes a 2025-26 player option.

If James finishes his contract with the Lakers, he’ll be an unrestricted free agent after the 2025-26 season. LA fans hope James will spend a few more seasons with the team, and it appears the superstar has plans to do so.

Lakers News: LeBron James Will Play at Least Two More Years

On the Pat McAfee Show Tuesday, ESPN Senior NBA Insider Shams Charania said “LeBron is gonna play at least two more years and he could potentially go three.” Charania added, “I don’t think anybody would be surprised if he played beyond next season.”

Based on James’ performance in the Summer Olympics and what he’s done over the last few seasons with the Lakers, it’s not shocking to think he could play at least three more years.

James doesn’t look like he’s lost a step and has found ways to impact the game in several ways, outside of being a scorer. Nonetheless, Lakers fans can’t think about the future, they’re focused on what James and this year’s team can do.
