LeBron James Reveals Shocking Lakers Plan for the Season
By Cem Yolbulan
The Los Angeles Lakers won their second straight game of the season when they defeated the Suns on Friday night. The JJ Redick era is off to a hot start with Anthony Davis leading the way and LeBron James still looking like a true All-NBA level player.
At the same time, it is important to remember that James is about to turn 40 in December, and Anthony Davis is an injury-prone 31-year-old. It behooves the Lakers to manage their workload and make sure they are healthy and in peak form for the postseason push. However, it sounds increasingly more likely that the Lakers don't actually have a plan in place for load management.
In fact, LeBron all but confirmed this after the win over Phoenix. He said that he will play on the second leg of the back-to-back against the Sacramento Kings on Saturday, per ESPN's Dave McMenamin.
Lakers News: LeBron James Planning to Play Every Game
The more surprising part of the statement was James saying that he is planning on playing every game this season.
Obviously, LeBron is remarkably healthy, considering his age and the mileage on his legs. At the same time, he hasn't played all 82 games since the 2017-18 season in Cleveland. Since joining the Lakers, he played 70 games only once. The fact that it was last season could give Lakers fans some hope that he could do it.
Whether James can play every regular-season game or not is beside the point. There is nothing LeBron has to prove at this stage of his career. And no one can know his body better than the greatest basketball player ever.
At the same time, it's clear that load management would increase LeBron's chances of being healthy for the playoffs. Perhaps Redick can find a way to keep his minutes low throughout the season, but playing a 40-year-old, even if it is LeBron James, every game in the grueling NBA season may not be the best idea.
