The Luka Doncic era in Los Angeles is officially here. The superstar guard's debut with the Lakers couldn't have gone better on Monday night as the Lakers routed the Utah Jazz, 132-113, at Crypto.com Arena.
In the first game LeBron James and Doncic shared a court for the Lakers, they showed how lethal that combination could be offensively. Both players played under 30 minutes in a game, which should act as a preview for what is to come for the Lakers going forward.
LeBron and Luka's chemistry wasn't only apparent on the court but also obvious off the court. James told Luka not to worry about fitting in but to focus on being himself instead. In fact, ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported that James made a big gesture for Doncic before his debut.
Luka says LeBron texted him about the intros Monday morning and said they would do whatever order Luka wanted. Luka told LeBron tonight he would like to go last and then it can go back to the old order. “He let me have my moment” https://t.co/kxBcFvINfJ

LeBron James Let Luka Doncic Have His Moment in Lakers Debut
One notable moment on Monday night was the pre-game introductions. Fans took notice of the fact that Doncic was the last Laker to be announced to the arena, a change from the usual order in which James went last.
Per McMenamin, this was decided by Doncic and James before the game. LeBron reportedly texted Doncic and said that he wanted the team to do whatever he wanted in his first game. Doncic wanted to be the last to be announced and the team, including James, complied.
For Lakers fans, this will hopefully be the beginning of a fruitful relationship between two stars. There should be little concern about what the partnership will look like on the court, as Doncic and James are two of the smartest basketball players in the NBA. There will be some defensive concerns and depth issues in the frontcourt, to be sure, but for now, all is good in Los Angeles.
