New Rams Addition in Line to Make L.A. Debut This Week After Injury
By Jovan Alford
The Los Angeles Rams are coming off a thrilling 44-42 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday at home.
With the win, Los Angeles is a game behind the Washington Commanders for the No. 7 seed in the NFC. However, the Rams are one game behind the Seattle Seahawks for first place in the NFC West.
Los Angeles will try to close the gap on Seattle this week. The Rams will kick off Week 15 with a Thursday night showdown against the San Francisco 49ers. These two NFC West foes played each other in Week 3, where the Rams won 27-24.
Sean McVay’s crew will try to get the season sweep, but it might be hard as the Rams may not have one of their starting cornerbacks.
On Monday, McVay told reporters that cornerback Cobie Durant suffered a long contusion against the Bills, and his status for Thursday is unclear, per Adam Grosbard of the Orange County Register. McVay also said if Durant can’t play, Emmanuel Forbes could be in line to make his Rams debut.
The Rams’ defense potentially not having Durant for Thursday night’s game is huge as the 49ers’ offense is still loaded with playmakers sans Brandon Aiyuk, Christian McCaffrey, and Jordan Mason. This season, the 26-year-old cornerback has posted 40 combined tackles, six pass deflections, four tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, a sack, and a forced fumble.
The former fourth-round pick has been outstanding in pass coverage this season, possessing a 58.1 completion percentage allowed on targets, and a 70.5 pass rating allowed when targeted.
Without Durant on the field, you have to believe that the 49ers will attack Forbes, who was just signed earlier this month. The Commanders shockingly waived the former first-round pick at the end of last month after only playing in 20 games across two seasons.
This season, Forbes only played in six games (one start) with the Commanders. The young defender had seven combined tackles, a pass deflection, and an interception in 30 percent of defensive snaps.
