Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Patrick Beverley has never been shy about taking shots at teammates or opponents. It was a short-lived tenure with the Lakers quickly finding the guard more trouble than his aggressive defense was worth. The random heat check shots and angering players for little reason not only pushed Beverley out of Los Angeles but would result in the defender leaving the league completely.
Still, the guard appears to have failed to learn his lesson, taking a shot at former teammate Blake Griffin.
Perhaps the former Laker would be wise to learn not to comment on teammates who are infinitely more talented. Unfortunately for Beverley, this would mean opting not to comment on the majority of NBA rosters. The only reason the defender made it into the league is that he plays borderline defense and talks himself into relevance.
In a league whose fan base loves physicality and rivalries, Beverley provided a taste of drama that quickly wore thin. Now it appears the guard is focused on repping his podcast and taking shots and anyone who might welcome headlines.
"People talk about Blake Griffin being in the Hall of Fame, and I’m looking like, how? No discredit to Blake Griffin, but I’m looking like, how? I took the Clippers to the Western Conference Finals for the first time ever. Like, if I would’ve dunked more, does that mean I would’ve made the Hall of Fame?"Patrick Beverley
Beverley makes it clear his feelings on whether or not Blake Griffin could be heading to the Hall of Fame. This is an out-of-bounds shot that continues to illustrate how the guard has become nothing but a WWE heel who hasn't realized the sport has left him behind. It is a terrible take for a player who was impactful for two franchises that badly needed relevance.
Lakers fans aren't going to be surprised by the shot, as it has been Beverley's pattern since leaving the league. As a reminder, Beverley's exit from the league was based on an incredibly disrespectful exchange with a reporter who dared offend the guard by not subscribing to his podcast.
It is hard to take this level of foolishness seriously for a player who needs to realize his days of talking himself into relevance are long gone. For the Lakers, it is a frustrating reminder of a former player the organization isn't terribly fond of. Beverley continues to add to a long list of potential enemies if the former NBA guard was relevant enough for pundits to care.
