11 Los Angeles Rams Who Won't Return Next Season

The Rams' window for contending is closing as Matthew Stafford gets another year older, and the young team will look to hold onto as many key pieces as possible.

3. Carson Wentz

Undefeated Los Angeles Ram Carson Wentz should be allowed to walk away with that perfect record intact. Who are we to rob him of such a great accolade? The guy is the franchise leader in all-time win percentage. A true great.

Joking aside, Wentz performed admirably when called upon in 2023, but don't expect him to return as Stafford's backup.

The market for Wentz was non-existent last year. Highly drafted quarterbacks (not to mention former NFL MVP candidates) tend to get plenty of chances even after their game has fallen off, but Wentz remained a free agent into November last year. That let the Rams bring him in for cheap.

Don't expect the same this year. He proved himself in his one start, and he spent a season working with a guy who has a bit of a "QB whisperer" reputation in McVay. Someone is gonna roll the dice on Wentz.

I'm not saying he'll get a guaranteed starting job or anything, but he may well compete with a rookie or get a "what do we have to lose?" shot at opening the year as a starter like Baker Mayfield did last year.

The Rams will need a capable veteran backup — this team can't afford to have someone who's going to go 0-4 if Stafford misses a month with an injury — but Wentz isn't going to be that guy.
