3 Donovan Mitchell Trade Packages the Lakers Should Offer

If Donovan Mitchell doesn't sign a contract extension with the Cavs, the Lakers will be at the front of the line trying to acquire him. Here are three trade packages that LA should offer.

Trade Package No. 2

Los Angeles sends Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, Christian Wood, and two first-round picks (2025 and ‘28) to Cleveland for Donovan Mitchell

The main difference between the second and first trade packages is that instead of the Lakers giving up Max Christie, they send two future first-round picks to Cleveland, along with Wood as a filler for Mitchell.

In any trade that LA does for Mitchell this offseason, Reaves will be the headliner as Hachimura plus picks won’t move the needle, especially with the Nets lurking in the background.

In this trade proposal, we would’ve sent the Cavaliers more picks, but due to the Stepien rule where teams can’t trade a first-round pick in consecutive years, Los Angeles is forced to use their 2025 and ‘28 selections.

The Lakers will happily sacrifice their future capital, especially if it means getting the 27-year-old Mitchell, who could be in LA for multiple seasons. The Lakers don’t necessarily need picks as they can get free agents to wear the purple and gold.
