3 Free Agents the Rams Should Sign Before Mandatory Minicamp
By Cem Yolbulan
Stephon Gilmore
Every year, there are a few free agents who shockingly remain on the market until the summer. Stephon Gilmore is one of them this offseason. The fact that the former Defensive Player of the Year is still available despite having another solid season with the Dallas Cowboys is difficult to comprehend.
Yes, Gilmore is 33 years old and it can be hard to trust a cornerback at that age. However, the five-time Pro Bowler has only missed one game in the last two years and his game hasn't suffered much of a decline. He only allowed a 55.8% completion rate and an 82.7 passer rating when targeted last year. His PFF grade of 74.4 would make him the second-best cornerback on the Rams roster behind Darious Williams.
The Rams surprisingly didn't select any cornerbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft. Yes, the signings of Williams and Tre'Davious White help, but this is not the most inspiring crop of cornerbacks in the league. Considering that Williams is already 31 and White only played in 10 games over the last two seasons, it would make sense to bring an established defender like Gilmore to feel better about your defensive unit.
Even if the Rams don't make these necessary additions, they will begin the 2024 season with an outside shot of making the Super Bowl. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Rams have the seventh-best odds at +1400 to win the NFC.
