The 2023 Los Angeles Chargers were one of the most disappointing teams in the NFL. The team that entered the season with high playoff aspirations was not competitive for most of the season, looking like a disaster on both sides of the ball.

The atrocious defensive performance was particularly frustrating, given the amount of veteran talent on that unit.

There were plenty of stars and big names who failed to play at the level their reputations would suggest. Here are the three Chargers that were the most underwhelming and overrated throughout the season.

1. Joey Bosa

The 28-year-old pass rusher certainly gets paid like an elite defender, but if availability is the best ability, he is nowhere near an elite defensive end.

Bosa was again as good as ever when he was on the field for the Chargers in 2023. But those appearances are becoming too few and far between. He missed eight games last season, bringing his total since signing his record-breaking contract extension back in 2020 to 24 missed games.

The former third-overall pick still produced in 2023, as he finished with 20 tackles and 6.5 sacks in nine games. Yet, his impact hasn't been consistent even when he plays.

Within the nine games he played last season, Bosa had three games with no sacks and a tackle. He is also consistently one of the more penalized defenders in the league. PFF ranks him as the 27th-best edge defender in the league, supporting his status as an overrated player as of now.
