2. Carson Wentz

Jimmy Garoppolo can't be the only answer as a backup QB for the Rams.

To start with, he's suspended for two games, so he simply won't be Stafford's backup until Week 3. But beyond that, you really want at least three quarterbacks in the organization (even if one is on the practice squad). And considering the uncertainty around Stetson Bennett, the Rams probably need to bring in one more.

Considering how good Carson Wentz looked when he had the chance last season and the apparent lack of interest from other teams, a reunion makes a ton of sense here.

Sean McVay gave him a chance to reinvent himself, and Wentz has run with it. Continuing to work together is beneficial for both sides too.

Wentz appears to be a solid backup and certainly would be one of the best QB3s in the league. That's great for the Rams. But this would also give Wentz a chance to continue developing as he looks to eventually earn playing time again in the NFL. And proving himself with the Rams could give him a chance to earn time once Stafford does retire.

He's unlikely to ever see significant playing time again, but sticking with the Rams probably gives him his best path for another shot at redemption.
