Ty Lue

If you were to ask LeBron James, this would likely be his number one coach he prefers for next season. Ty Lue started his head coaching career because LeBron advocated for him in Cleveland. The Cavs front office fired David Blatt in the middle of the 2015-16 season and promoted his assistant Lue for the position.

Lue ended up leading the Cavs to an improbable championship over the Golden State Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals. He followed that up with two more NBA Finals. James still speaks extremely highly of Lue and his coaching abilities.

For the past four seasons, Lue has been the head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers. He has been dealing with constant injuries to his stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. They seemingly never have a healthy roster and have made it past the first round once during that span.

If the Clippers were to lose to the Dallas Mavericks in the first round, Lue might be gone in the offseason. It wouldn't be his fault since Leonard is out with an injury once again. If the Clippers and Lue want a fresh start, they may choose to change things up. Lue resigning or getting fired would certainly be a possibility.

If that were to happen, the Lakers should do everything they can to bring him in. He is the exact sort of creative, flexible and outside-the-box coach that the Lakers need to take a step forward.
