4 LA Kings on Thin Ice Following Jim Hiller Extension as Head Coach
2. Viktor Arvidsson, LW
Several Kings dealt with injuries throughout the 2023-24 season, including Viktor Arvidsson. The Swedish forward was limited to just 18 games due to a combination of a back surgery he underwent in October and a lower-body injury.
After tallying 15 points during his limited regular-season appearances, Kings fans hoped that Arvidsson would be a key postseason contributor. While the 31-year-old veteran managed to tally three assists, he failed to score on any of his 11 shots. In fact, he only scored six goals between 23 regular season and playoff games, which equates to a 0.26 goal-per-game pace — down from last year's mark of 0.34.
Arvidsson is now a free agent this summer and there's no guarantee that the Kings will bring him back. According to Spotrac, Los Angeles only has around $21 million to spend this offseason with about a dozen players hitting the open market. Considering how Arvidsson carried a $4.25 million annual cap hit on his last deal, Los Angeles may opt to use his freed-up salary to address multiple free agents.
As solid as Arvidsson can be when he's on his game, I won't be shocked if Hiller wants him replaced with a younger option who has a less extensive injury history.
