The Los Angeles Lakers have yet to make an acquisition this offseason outside of Dalton Knecht and Bronny James in the 2024 NBA Draft. They targeted a few free agents but came up empty-handed.

The Lakers simply can't afford to enter the 2024-25 season with the same roster as last year. They need better role players around LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Otherwise, it will be very difficult to imagine the season ending in a different way than it did last year against the Denver Nuggets.

Fortunately for the Lakers, there are still free agents available on the market who would be a good fit in Los Angeles. Now that the market has dried, these players will likely sign veteran minimum deals or team-friendly contracts. Considering that the Lakers have plenty of playing time and a big rotation role available, they should have a good shot at landing a few of these names. Let's take a look.

Tyus Jones

The 28-year-old point guard is arguably the best player left on the free agent market. Jones spent last season with the Washington Wizards and averaged 12 points and 7.3 assists on 48.9/41.4/80 shooting splits. He has long been one of the best assist-to-turnover ratio players in the league.

Jones is not the best scorer or defender from the point guard position. He certainly has his limitations as an undersized, under athletic guard. However, he is as good of a table setter and floor general as there is in the NBA. He rarely makes any mistakes, puts his teammates in good positions, and doesn't take much off the table. Considering that the Lakers are likely moving on from D'Angelo Russell, they will be hard-pressed to find a more affordable and capable replacement than Jones.
