Cam Johnson & Dorian Finney-Smith

These Brooklyn Nets forwards should be considered together because of their similar positions and play styles. Cam Johnson is obviously a better shooter and an overall more impactful player but Dorian Finney-Smith is much cheaper and more easily gettable. Considering where the Nets are as a franchise, choosing to rebuild this summer, they should be willing to trade both Johnson and Finney-Smith.

Johnson is one of the best three-point shooters in his position. A consistent 40% shooter from downtown, he can fit seamlessly next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Finney-Smith, on the other hand, is not the same player he was when he was with the Dallas Mavericks when they made the 2022 Conference Finals. Yet, he is still a solid veteran who can contribute to a contender. He can defend multiple positions, plays hard, and doesn't have too many weaknesses. Plus, he can make an open three-pointer, something plenty of Lakers role players can't say about themselves.

Would adding Johnson and Finney-Smith make the Lakers immediate championship contenders? Probably not. But that duo would also not cost too much.

The Lakers should be able to acquire that duo with a package including D'Angelo Russell and Rui Hachimura and some draft capital. It can't be denied that would be a significant upgrade for the Lakers and allow them to make other moves to further bolster the roster. And it's better than twiddling your thumbs like GM Rob Pelinka has been doing all summer.
