5 Former Lakers Still Without A Job As Training Camp Kicks Off

Troy Brown Jr.
The LeBron James era in Los Angeles can be defined by the endless experiments for potential three-and-D wings. The team consistently struggled in surrounding James and Anthony Davis with enough shooting and defense. They squandered their cap space and made ill-advised moves. Therefore, they had to resort to cheap alternatives on the wing.
One of those was Troy Brown Jr. After four underwhelming seasons in the NBA, Brown signed with the Lakers in the 2022 offseason. He was one of many Rich Paul clients who found his way to Los Angeles over the years.
In the end, he wasn't a bad signing. He arguably had the best season of his career, appearing in 76 games (45 starts) and averaging 7.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.
Yet, at age 25, he is currently unemployed, which says a lot about the types of teams LeBron James had to play with during his Lakers stint.
Reggie Bullock
Another common thread on LeBron's Lakers teams is the abundance of players who forgot how to shoot once they arrived in Los Angeles. Reggie Bullock was one of them.
In James' first season as a Laker, the team wanted to get more shooting and defense around him. They traded for Reggie Bullock from the Pistons, who had shot over 44% from three a year prior. As a Laker, he only made 34.3% of his threes and left for the Knicks in the offseason.
Bullock had the best years of his career as a Maverick between 2021 and 2023 but fell out of rotation in Houston last year. He may still get another chance in the league but time is running out for the 33-year-old.
