Chidobe Awuzie, CB
The Chargers have an immediate need in the secondary in 2024. They were wildly inconsistent last year after having a solid 2022. They allowed 249.8 passing yards per game, the fourth-most in the NFL.
Michael Davis had a down year and is likely leaving in free agency. The only reliable corner on the team is Asante Samuel Jr. Therefore, targeting a high-end corner in free agency makes a ton of sense for the Bolts.
Chidobe Awuzie, who has played at an elite level for the Cincinnati Bengals previously, is a free agent. After tearing his ACL midway through the 2022 season, he returned to action in 2023. He was not at his pre-injury level but he still only allowed 36 receptions and had a 62.3 coverage grade on PFF.
Considering that the Bengals have invested resources into their defensive backs, Awuzie might be acquirable for less than $10 million per year. He has postseason experience and he is still only 28. The Chargers could do much worse than Awuzie.
