5 WRs Rams Should Target After Puka Nacua Injury News

Michael Thomas, FA
If the Rams don't want to give up draft capital or assets in a potential trade, they could turn to the free-agent market. At this point in the season, there aren't too many elite options available but Michael Thomas could be an intriguing candidate. The former Saints star is probably the best free agent WR available right now.
In his prime, Thomas was arguably the most productive pass-catcher in the league. He still holds the record for most receptions in a season with 149. His 2019 season of 149 catches, 1,725 yards, and nine touchdowns remains one of the best recent seasons by any offensive player in the league.
He is obviously not the same player anymore. He is 31 years old and spent significant time on the injured reserve in each of the past two seasons. Previously, he missed the entire 2021 season with an ankle injury.
However, when he is out there, he can still be productive. In the 10 games he played last season, he put up 39 catches, 448 yards, and one touchdown. He should be considered a temporary fix and a flyer rather than a permanent solution to the Rams' problems.
Hunter Renfrow, FA
Another intriguing free agent option for the Rams is former Raiders receiver Hunter Renfrow. Former Pro Bowler who put up 1,000+ yards in 2021 failed to replicate that success in the following two seasons. Yet, at age 28, he may still have some gas left in the tank.
Renfrow is a different type of player than the ones listed above. Dubbed the "Slot Machine", Renfrow is more a role-specific player who can keep the offense moving in the right scheme. He boasts 10.7 yards per catch in his career. When healthy, he can make a difference with his route-running and reliable catch rate.
He is unlikely to make a huge impact for the Rams but he could certainly help soften the blow of Nacua's loss.
