The Los Angeles Lakers have a long checklist that needs to get cleared over the course of the offseason. The first major domino to fall was J.J. Redick becoming the head coach and now the focus shifts to the 2024 NBA Draft.

The Lakers have the No. 17 and the No. 55 overall picks and could find two young playmakers starting this Wednesday.

Los Angeles has expressed interest in a plethora of different prospects but the latest news isn't going to put a smile on Anthony Davis' face.

Lakers News: Los Angeles' Trade Target May End up Going Earlier Than Expected

The Lakers worked out Purdue center Zach Edey during the pre-draft process and have expressed an interest in potentially taking him at No. 17.

But it sounds like he may not even be there. Kevin O'Connor of the Ringer revealed that the Portland Trail Blazers have an interest in selecting Edey in the lottery.

"The Blazers also worked out Purdue center Zach Edey earlier in the month, and people around the NBA believe that they are also extremely high on him—not just for the 14th pick, but for their first choice at no. 7. The bottom line is that the Blazers seem to be looking to come away with a center to pair with Scoot Henderson and their other young pieces. "

This wouldn't be ideal for the Lakers as they are looking to add a more traditional center this offseason. Anthony Davis has told the organization multiple times that he prefers to play the four spot instead of the five.

If the Lakers find a way to add Edey, that would be a massive step toward solving that problem. Edey was one of the most dominating players in college basketball. Last season, the 7-foot-4 center averaged 25.2 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game.

He isn't the most agile or athletic force but his massive size helps make up for it.

It looks like he's turned the heads of multiple teams around the league and the Lakers could be out of luck in the Edey sweepstakes.
