The Los Angeles Lakers haven't made any major signings or trades this offseason. Their biggest move was adding J.J. Redick as the head coach and re-signing LeBron James.

Los Angeles added Dalton Knecht and Bronny James in the 2024 NBA Draft. There was a lot of chatter surrounding the selection of Bronny as he joined his father LeBron on the team.

Bronny inked a four-year, $7.9 million deal with Los Angeles so he's going to be on this roster. He got his first opportunity to showcase his talent during Summer League and his latest performance was a step in the right direction.

On July 10, the Lakers suited up against the Miami Heat in the California Classic. The Heat topped Los Angeles 80-76. In that outing, James displayed his ability to be a disruptive defender.

Throughout the entire contest, Bronny played hounding defense and consistently found ways to poke the ball out. He has great lateral quickness with active hands to create turnovers. On multiple occasions, those defensive plays led to the Lakers getting out in transition.

He finished with three points, five rebounds, two steals, and three blocks. He also had a +8 plus/minus which was second on the team.

Although he shot just 1-of-3 from the field, his defensive tenacity was eye-opening. Those traits are what will get you playing time as a young player. Coaches love feisty and instinctive defenders on the floor.

It's not breaking news that Bronny still needs to develop his offensive game some more. That has always been the deal once he entered the league. His defense however is already NBA-ready.

Bronny showing this defensive performance in just his second appearance is great news for the Lakers and their fanbase.
