Bronny James Throws Shade at Darvin Ham During Lakers Training Camp
By Cem Yolbulan
The Los Angeles Lakers officially opened their 2024-25 season this week. Training camp is in full swing after going through media day and practices. In fact, the Lakers have their first two preseason games scheduled for Friday and Sunday.
Lakers fans are curious to see what the new-look Lakers under head coach JJ Redick looks like. What the on-court product will look like remains to be seen but one thing everyone seems to agree on is the fact that vibes under Redick are much better than they were last season.
Veterans on the team have alluded to the positives Redick is bringing to the table. Yet, it's not just the players on the roster last year who are talking negatively about Darvin Ham. Bronny James was the latest Laker to throw shade at the former coach.
NBA News: Bronny James Throws Darvin Ham Under the Bus
The Athletic's Jovan Buha reported that the 19-year-old rookie said, "I feel like [Redick] upped the vibes from what it was last year from what I've heard."
This is a remarkable quote considering Bronny was obviously not on the team last year. This brings up the fact that he likely heard this from his father. LeBron James must have talked about his dissatisfaction with the team last year.
Normally, NBA players tend to praise their former coaches. They belong to the same basketball family and you never know when your paths might cross with each other. Ham is still a highly respected assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks after all.
The fact that the Lakers players are not shy about publicly disparaging Ham highlights the lack of chemistry the team had last season.
One can argue about whether Redick is the right coach for the Lakers. These statements, however, leave no doubt as to why it was the right decision to move on from Ham.
