The Los Angeles Chargers are underway in their first draft with Jim Harbaugh and Joe Hortiz calling the shots.

They kicked off their tenure by selecting Notre Dame's OT Joe Alt at No. 5 overall. In Rounds 2 & 3, the Chargers then nabbed WR Ladd McConkey and LB Junior Colsen (who played under Harbaugh at Michigan).

But before Day 3 officially started, the Chargers announced some big news regarding Rashawn Slater.

Chargers News: Los Angeles Picked Up the 5th Year Option on Rashawn Slater

ESPN's Field Yates reported on April 27 that the Chargers are exercising the 5th-year option for tackle Rashawn Slater.

This isn't a surprise as Slater has developed into one of the top tackles in the league. The Northwestern product has superb length and owns great body control. He has active hands and gets out of his stance with ease.

In 2023, Slater finished with a 76.6 overall grade and an 84.7 pass-blocking grade. He recorded 1,154 offensive snaps and allowed just three total sacks.

With Slater's option picked up for 2025, the Chargers now have the 25-year-old and Alt as the bookend tackles for Justin Herbert going forward.

In Slater's three-year career in Los Angeles, he's had given up eight total sacks and notched at least a 72 pass-blocking grade according to PFF.

Harbaugh loves to be the more physically imposing and mauling team. Having a combination of Slater and Alt at tackle with Zion Johnson along the interior is a great way to keep your franchise signal caller up right.
