Chargers Fans Will Love Steelers Injury News Ahead of Week 3 Battle
The Los Angeles Chargers are one of the pleasant surprises thus far into the season. They had an offseason that was headlined by constant change. The main one was the head coach when they brought in Jim Harbaugh.
Regardless of the new moving parts, the Chargers have come out hot and are 2-0. On Sunday, Los Angeles travels to play the Pittsburgh Steelers as they look to stay undefeated. It's never easy for a West Coast team to travel over to the East Coast for an early window game but the latest injury for the Steelers just made things a lot easier for the Chargers.
NFL News: Troy Fautanu Will Miss Week 3
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Pittsburgh rookie right tackle Troy Fautanu injured his knee in Friday's practice and is now expected to miss time indefinitely. That likely means that Broderick Jones will have to step in and start in his place.
And that is music to the ears of Charger fans. Fautanu has been a solid presence upfront for Pittsburgh, playing in 55 offensive snaps, allowing zero sacks and one QB hit.
Now Jones will have to step in, but he's struggled thus far in 2024. The Georgia product has played in 80 offensive snaps, logging four penalties with two sacks and pressures allowed. In addition, he has a putrid 43.6 overall grade per PFF.
The four penalties are tied for an NFL high and led to Jones getting benched in Week 2.
With Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack screaming off the edge, Jones could be in trouble. Generating pressure is the key to disrupting offenses, and the Chargers have two guys who do that at a high level.
With quarterback Justin Herbert dealing with an ankle injury, the defense may need to help carry this team to victory on Sunday.
