Former Chargers Playmaker Lands Job Ahead of 2024 Campaign
The Los Angeles Chargers are rolling into the 2024 season with a lot of changes on the roster and coaching staff.
The Chargers decided to hand over control to Jim Harbaugh and he's building the roster as he sees fit. With training camp taking place for a few weeks, various players are locking down roster spots.
While that is happening, former Chargers are seeking to latch on elsewhere and one player just landed a job before week two of the preseason.
NFL News: Josh Kelley Signs With New York Giants
According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, the New York Giants have signed running back Josh Kelley. The 26-year-old was selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft by Los Angeles.
Kelley runs with a calm tempo and pace in the backfield, which allows him to quickly get to the second level consistently. Across four seasons with the Chargers, he finished 320 carries for 1,148 yards, and six rushing scores.
With Austin Ekeler and Kelley no longer donning the blue and yellow, the Chargers will have Gus Edwards and JK Dobbins leading the way.
Both of these guys are known as power backs who can wear out a defense. Los Angeles wants to become a more physical football team, and changing your tailbacks is a way to enforce that.
The start of the regular season is three weeks away and the anticipation continues to build. On Sept. 8, the Chargers will host the Las Vegas Raiders in a divisional bout to begin the season. In that contest, quarterback Justin Herbert will have a new stampede of backs behind him as they look to turn things around in 2024.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Chargers have the second-best odds at +350 to win the AFC West.
