Scott Matlock, DT – Round 6, Pick 200, Grade: C-

The former Boise State defensive lineman saw sporadic playing time on defense and special teams this season. The rookie defensive tackle recorded 15 combined tackles, a tackle for loss, and a quarterback hit.

The most playing time Matlock received as a rookie was in the regular season finale against the Kansas City Chiefs. The 23-year-old posted three combined tackles and played a season-high 53% of defensive snaps.

The Chargers would love to see the Matlock we saw in his final season at Boise State in 2022, where he had 49 total tackles, six tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks.

Max Duggan, QB – Round 7, Pick 239, Grade: Incomplete

The Chargers wrapped up the 2023 NFL Draft with the selection of former TCU quarterback Max Duggan.

Duggan had an excellent final season at TCU, which saw the Horned Frogs face off against the Georgia Bulldogs in the national title game. The 6-foot-1 quarterback completed 63.7 percent of his passes for 3,698 yards, 32 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He also had 423 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.

The Chargers likely envisioned Duggan as their developmental QB3 option, who could compete with Easton Stick for the backup job. However, he spent most of this season on the taxi squad and was signed to a reserves/futures contract earlier this month.
