NBA Insider Shams Charania reported on Tuesday that the Lakers are “zeroing in” on JJ Redick becoming their next head coach

The news of this potential hire wasn’t shocking to many NBA fans as the latest rumors over the last few weeks had Redick as the frontrunner to replace Darvin Ham. That said, the hiring of the former NBA player turned NBA analyst has yet to be made official as Redick is preparing to call the 2024 NBA Finals.

Speaking of Redick, he had a chance to speak out about Charania’s latest report on the GoJo and Golic Show on Wednesday. However, Redick didn’t do much to dispel the rumor leading to fans believing that he landed the job.

“My focus is on the NBA Finals, I will say that,” Redick said. “In terms of Shams, that will be addressed once the season is over. I’ll just say that”

If the Lakers ultimately hire the 39-year-old Redick. It will not be an easy challenge as he’ll be tasked with taking this veteran team with Anthony Davis and LeBron James and trying to get them back to the NBA Finals.

The Lakers failed to get out of the first round of the NBA playoffs this season under Ham as they lost in five games to the Denver Nuggets. In a few of those games, the Lakers blew double-digit leads, which is an indictment of the players and head coach.

Redick will try to change that next season as the Lakers faithful will not be content with anything but a deep playoff run. Fans are skeptical of the potential hire based on Redick not having any head coaching experience.

However, that might be a good thing, as Los Angeles’ front office might do whatever it needs to give Redick and James everything they need to be successful.
