Lakers Already in Bad Graces Among JJ Redick’s Circle
The NBA season is rapidly approaching as media days around the league have started. The Los Angeles Lakers are seeking a bounce-back campaign in 2024-25 after they changed head coaches.
The Lakers decided to fire Darvin Ham in favor of JJ Redick. He was one of the best voices in the national media and won over management to land his first job in the NBA.
Despite getting the gig, people inside Redick's circle aren't too fond of the Lakers organization.
Lakers News: JJ Redick’s Inner Circle Aren’t in Love With Lakers
In a piece written by ESPN's Dave McMenamin, he revealed that people close to Redick cautioned him on taking the Lakers job.
Per McMenamin, "several people close to Redick told him it would be a bad idea to take it." Regardless of that, Redick had an urge to get into a more competitive space and believed the Lakers were a great spot for him.
"There's a competitive itch that I have every single day of my life. And no matter how many swings I took, that was not getting satisfied. And so, I felt a real calling in terms of the competitive side."
- JJ Redick
One thing that's been made very clear is that the Lakers have championship aspirations. With LeBron James slated to turn 40 this year, the time is ticking.
The Lakers will need Redick to get the most out of this group and help them take a jump compared to last year.
Time will tell if Redick can do that but he has the Lakers support. At least for now.
