The Los Angeles Lakers will be one of the most intriguing teams to watch this offseason. There are so many storylines that are surrounding the team after a disappointing first-round exit in the playoffs.

The biggest need right now is finding a head coach but the latest reports hint that the Lakers are likely headed toward one specific candidate.

Another thing on the Lakers do-list is to re-sign LeBron James, who is expected to opt out of his deal and become a free agent. He's expected to stay in the City of Angels but the Lakers still need to find a way to add more talent to this roster.

They understand that and are reportedly leaning in one certain direction this offseason.

Lakers News: Lakers Want To Add More Depth

The Lakers have two bonafide superstars in LeBron James and Anthony Davis but the rest of the roster leaves a lot to be desired.

Jovan Buha of the Athletic dropped another episode of 'Buha's Block' and discussed what he thinks the Lakers will do with their roster.

He said, "My sense right now is they're leaning more toward upgrading the supporting cast rather than the three-star model."

Buha gave multiple reasons why he thinks this will be the case. He cites it's hard to trade for a third star. Buha then added Los Angeles would have a higher luxury tax bill and it would be difficult to build out the rest of the roster.

All those points make a lot of sense, given the fact that both James and Davis are playing at high levels. If you look around the league now, the best teams have a dynamic duo with impactful role players around them. That would be a smart model to follow for the Lakers.

Austin Reaves was their third-best player during the 2023-24 season but they need more impactful forces behind him.

Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent, Christian Wood, Taurean Prince, and Spencer Dinwiddie were underwhelming role players this past season. Los Angeles would be wise to move on from these guys and find some effective players to surround James and Davis in the 2024-25 campaign.
