The Los Angeles Lakers have been eerily quiet to start NBA free agency, but that might be a good sign as the team zeroes in on particular players who could help him this offseason. One free agent on the Lakers’ radar is Klay Thompson.

Thompson is an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NBA career after spending 12 seasons with the Golden State Warriors. The 34-year-old three-point marksman has received a ton of interest on the open market, with the Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Dallas Mavericks, and Philadelphia 76ers being connected to him.

The Lakers are trying to land Thompson as LeBron James would reportedly take a pay cut to get him on the roster. However, it won’t be easy as the Dallas Mavericks are waiting in the wings to steal Thompson from Los Angeles.

Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer was on the Dan LeBatard Show with Stugotz Monday, discussing the potential landing spots for Thompson.

Fischer names the Lakers as a finalist for the former NBA champion but he doesn’t like their chances of getting him.

"The word has definitely been that he [Klay Thompson] is deciding between Dallas and the Lakers... so if winning ultimately rules the day it's going to be Dallas.”

Fischer threw in his own opinion and analysis when choosing Dallas as the landing spot for Thompson. However, Lakers fans should not be discouraged as James has been doing his part to recruit the former Golden State Warriors star.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said on SportsCenter that James called Thompson when free agency kicked off at 6 p.m. ET Sunday. James understands what the addition of Thompson could do for the Lakers offensively in helping to space the floor for him and Anthony Davis.

Even though Thompson took a step back on both ends of the floor, he scored 17.9 points per game on 43.2 percent shooting from the field and 38.7 percent from three-point range. If the veteran wants to get back at the Warriors for “disrespecting” him, then the Lakers are a good landing spot.
