Lakers Reportedly Targeting All-Star Guard on the Trade Market Following Playoff Exit
The Los Angeles Lakers have now shifted their focus to the offseason after their season ended on April 29.
For the second straight year, the Denver Nuggets ended the Lakers' season but this time management will have to switch things up in the offseason. This same core hasn't been able to get over the hump and it's time to make some moves over the next few months.
Even though the season just ended, reports are already circulating about potential acquisitions.
Lakers Rumors: A Potential Trade Target For Los Angeles Emerges
Shams Charania was on RunItBackFDTV and said that Atlanta guard Trae Young is a name to keep an eye on for the Lakers.
Los Angeles can send out up to three first-rounders and will revolve a deal around Austin Reaves to facilitate a trade for Young.
Guard D'Angelo Russell has a player option of $18.7 million for 2024-2025 but Russell didn't make it sound like he was a lock to return next season.
Also, he struggled in the postseason for the second straight year so it wouldn't be surprising to see him head elsewhere.
That's where Young could step in and provide an upgrade for the Lakers. The former Oklahoma product is a rangy and fearless scorer on the floor. In his career, Young averages 25.5 points, 9.5 assists, and shoots 35.5% from beyond the arc.
His playmaking ability in combination with his offensive firepower will be an interesting option for the Lakers.
LeBron James also wasn't committed to Lakers for 2024 but the addition of Young could sway him in the direction to stay in LA.
