Lakers Scrambling to Keep LeBron With Potential Darivn Ham Replacement
The Los Angeles Lakers have now shifted their focus onto the offseason. In the first round of the NBA Playoffs, the Denver Nuggets beat the Lakers in five games, putting an early end to their season for the second straight year.
There have been rumors circulating that the Lakers were going to part ways with Darvin Ham and that officially happened on May 3. With Ham finally being let go by the Lakers, they will now be looking for his replacement to step in.
They wasted no time dropping names on who could step in for the Purple and Gold next season.
Lakers News: J.J. Redick Is A Candidate to Be Lakers Next Head Coach
Dave McMenamin of ESPN appeared on the Dan Patrick Show and said, "J.J. is certainly a real candidate if they do open up this coaching search. There's I'd say half a dozen folks out there, including possibly Tyronn Lue. There are several viable candidates who will get an interview."
Redick recently started a podcast with LeBron James called "Mind the Game" that has 576K subscribers. James and Redick have a great friendship that goes way beyond the basketball court.
Redick played in the NBA from 2006-2021, thriving as a defender and knockdown shooter on the perimeter. The 39-year-old is currently a lead game analyst on ESPN and quickly became one of the biggest faces in the NBA media. Redick is also reported to be a "serious candidate" for the Charlotte Hornets coaching position.
With James likely opting out of his current deal and becoming an unrestricted free agent, the Lakers will be doing everything in their power to make sure he's happy.
With Ham flaming out and seeming to have lost the locker room, Los Angeles could be looking to add someone who their franchise player is a fan of. James having the option to head elsewhere adds a whole other dynamic to the equation.
