The Los Angeles Lakers have bounced back from the Dan Hurley rejection earlier this week and are continuing their hiring process for their next head coach. The reporting suggests that JJ Redick and James Borrego are the leading candidates and the former Duke star-turned-broadcaster is taking the next step in the process.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Redick will interview for the job with general manager Rob Pelinka and owner Jeanie Buss over the weekend.

Lakers News: JJ Redick Officially Interviewing to be Next Head Coach

This isn't too surprising. The expectation was that the process would accelerate once the NBA Finals were done and Redick no longer had to work during the broadcasts. Now that the Boston Celtics are up 3-0 and the Finals are about to wrap up, Redick and the Lakers are wasting no time getting this done.

Considering the simultaneous reports that Borrego is the frontrunner to get the Cleveland Cavaliers job, Redick has to be the presumptive favorite to land the Lakers job.

The interview is largely a formality at this stage. The sides presumably know one another very well and have had unofficial talks before. Plus, LeBron James has long been an advocate for Redick and that is much more important than any interview.

Obviously, there is a chance the sides can't agree. It could be because of a difference in the contract, the vision, or the plan for the franchise. However, if things have advanced to this point, it is safe to assume that this is Redick's job to lose.
