Los Angeles Chargers fans weren’t happy this weekend after they saw their football team lose by 10 points on the road to the Pittsburgh Steelers (20-10). Then to make matters worse, they saw their franchise quarterback Justin Herbert leave in the third quarter due to his ankle injury.

Heading into Sunday’s contest against the Steelers, there was some optimism that Herbert would play despite dealing with a high ankle sprain. But it seems like the Chargers made things worse by having Herbert go out on the field with a bum ankle.

The star quarterback completed 12-of-18 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown. He was also sacked twice before leaving the field and getting replaced by backup Taylor Heinicke.

Herbert reportedly was seen in a walking boot after the game, per Daniel Popper of The Athletic.

The 26-year-old quarterback gave reporters an update on his ankle injury, saying that he got additional X-rays done, and he’s waiting for the results. Herbert added that the injury is a “continuation” of his ankle sprain.

This is terrible news for the Chargers as high ankle sprains can linger if not treated properly. Los Angeles has a tough matchup next week against the Kansas City Chiefs.

With Herbert in a walking boot and undergoing additional X-rays, it's unlikely that we will see him next week. Therefore, Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh will start Heinicke or Easton Stick. Henicke completed 2-of-2 passes for 24 yards and was sacked three times in Sunday’s loss to Pittsburgh.
