Lonzo Ball Admits Harsh Truth About Trade From Lakers
Anthony Davis is heading into his sixth season as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. There was a time when the Lakers were heavily pursuing Davis to pair him with LeBron James.
There were mixed opinions on whether the Lakers should do that because they would have to part ways with a lot of the young talent they accumulated over the years.
Obviously, Los Angeles pulled the trigger, trading Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, and three first-round picks for the talented big man in 2019.
Now five years later, Ball discussed the trade and gave his brutal honesty on it.
Lakers News: Lonzo Ball Believes He Should Have Been Included in Package for Anthony Davis
On his own podcast "What An Experience!", Ball was talking about the deal that sent him to New Orleans. A clip surfaced that showed the 26-year-old saying he would have traded himself for Davis.
"A part of me was like, I mean to be fair, I would have traded myself for Anthony Davis. "
- Lonzo Ball
That is a tough thing to admit as a player but that showcases Ball's maturity. He was selected as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Lakers to help turn around the organization around.
In two seasons with the Lakers, the former UCLA product averaged 10 points, 6.2 rebounds, 6.4 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.
Although he showed some promise, he wasn't that much of a game-changer compared to Davis. The move worked long-term for the Lakers as they won the championship in 2020.
As for Ball, it has been a rocky road for him since headlined by knee injuries. The NBA is a business and that is what Ball learned early on in his career.
