All eyes were on Matthew Stafford as he returned to his old home, Ford Field, to face his ex-team, the Detroit Lions, in the first round of the playoffs. Stafford did everything he could to give his Los Angeles Rams a chance at the road upset, but the Lions' defense got the stops they needed in the fourth quarter to get the win.

Stafford was asked after the game if he feels happy about Detroit snapping its postseason woes. His answer, however, has surprised many.

The former Lions QB was directly questioned about the city of Detroit, but he instead replied he's "happy for the players." More than a few Motor City residents have taken this as a shot at Stafford's past home.

Stafford has been on the record ever since his departure about his love for Detroit. He entered the league with the Lions and grew up in front of fans over first 12 NFL seasons. They've shown their support, especially when Stafford took the Rams to the Super Bowl in his very first year.

That mutual love went by the wayside this weekend, though, with Stafford returning as the opponent. The stakes at hand, with Detroit hoping to make a legit SB run, brought out some nasty behavior from fans. One group called for a Stafford jersey ban on Sunday; even worse, Stafford was greeted by boos during this playoff clash.

So it's no wonder Stafford wasn't eager to express his happiness for the city after the loss. It surely felt like his former home turned on him, forgetting all he did to help turn that franchise around.

Luckily, Stafford won't have to wait long to exact his revenge, as these squads are scheduled for a rematch at Ford Field during the 2024 season.
