New LeBron James Comments About Future Will Thrill Lakers Fans
By Cem Yolbulan
Lakers fans have high expectations going into the 2024-25 NBA season. Reinvigorated by the JJ Redick hire, the fanbase wants to see the team have another deep postseason run in the final stage of LeBron James' career.
What complicates matters is the fact that the team failed to make any upgrades to the roster. Despite their best efforts on the free agent market and the trade block, the Lakers came up short in acquiring their top targets. Hence, they are bringing back the same team that lost in the first round last season.
That means that LeBron James and Anthony Davis will continue to carry a massive workload if the Lakers are to have a chance at being competitive. The duo showed the world they could still be an elite partnership during the Paris Olympics.
Some Lakers fans were concerned that at his age, LeBron would have difficulty bringing the same level of energy and intensity to the season. However, LeBron nipped these concerns in the bud at Lakers' media day.
Lakers News: LeBron James Teases Big Individual Season
According to ESPN's Dave McMenamin, the 39-year-old superstar said that he has "a lot in the tank" even after the gold medal run with Team USA.
That is an excellent sign for the organization. The Lakers don't have the depth and quality to withstand a sub-All-Star level season from LeBron. Last season, James played 71 games and averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.3 assists on 54% shooting from the field, making the All-NBA third team.
Replicating that production would be unprecedented in an age-40 season. Yet, with LeBron, we have grown accustomed to the unprecedented so fans should sit back and enjoy the ride while LeBron continues to defy earthly possibilities.
