The Los Angeles Rams defense was dealt a significant loss to open up training camp this week as it was reported that young cornerback Derion Kendrick suffered a torn ACL on Thursday, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

On Friday, the Rams announced that Kendrick was placed on the reserve/injured list, meaning his 2024 season is likely over. With that being said, Los Angeles needed to find a replacement for the former sixth-round pick and they did just that.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that free-agent cornerback Jerry Jacobs plans to sign with the Rams.

The former Detroit Lions cornerback reportedly was supposed to visit with the Carolina Panthers this week. The 26-year-old Jacobs was shockingly not re-signed by the Lions after playing well in 2023.

The 5-foot-11 cornerback started in 12 out of 15 games for the Lions last season. Jacobs had 55 total tackles, eight pass deflections, three interceptions, two tackles for loss, and a quarterback hit.

Jacobs also had a 63.4 completion percentage allowed on targets and gave up six scores. The Rams will not look for Jacobs to start as they have Darious Williams and Tre’Davious White on the boundary.

However, the former Lions cornerback could compete with Quentin Lake for the slot job. At the same time, Jacobs gives the Rams an experienced guy who can step in as a starter if need be.

Rams head coach Sean McVay hopes Jacobs can play how he did in 2022 with the Lions. During that season, the former Arkansas Razorback standout had 42 combined tackles, eight pass deflections, four tackles for loss, and a sack. Jacobs possessed a 53.3 completion percentage allowed on targets and only gave up a touchdown in eight starts (12 games played).
