It's officially Week 1 for the Los Angeles Rams, who have an opening contest versus the Las Vegas Raiders to prepare for. Los Angeles spent the entire offseason optimizing its personnel for this moment, with the hopes of returning to the playoffs and getting back to contention.
However, it turns out the Rams have made a significant coaching addition right before the team's first game.
Sources: The LA Rams are expected to hire Scott Frost as a Senior Football Analyst. Frost was most recently the head coach at Nebraska and went 13-0 as the head coach of UCF in 2017. Frost played five seasons in the NFL as a defensive back and worked as an assistant at Oregon. pic.twitter.com/EWYaZfEYUK

ESPN's Peter Thamel reported on Sunday that LA is hiring Scott Frost as a senior football analyst. The Athletic's Jourdan Rodrigue added Frost will contribute in a number of areas, including on special teams, where the Rams just lost suffered a loss after parting ways with assistant Chili Davis.
The Rams are hiring Scott Frost, per team and league sources. He will help with a variety of roles on the staff (including special teams where they have a vacancy). He spent some time with the Rams in OTAs and training camp. This has been in the works for a few days.

Frost is a surprising hire considering where his career was once headed. He rose up the coaching ranks and eventually took over at UCF, where he helped lead the Black Knights to an undefeated season in 2017, capped off by a Peach Bowl victory over Auburn.
The former NFL draft pick then returned to his alma mater, Nebraska, where he was expected to turn the Cornhuskers around. Instead, he failed to post a winning record in his four full seasons at the helm, leading to his firing in September 2022.
Given that Forst was once one of the most promising coaching talents in the nation, this is a great flyer for Sean McVay to take. He's not even being installed in a well-defined role, allowing him to help in a variety of ways without the added pressure of being the clear point person of a unit.
This is a golden opportunity for Frost to get back on the coaching radar as well. He'll learned under one of the most respected minds in McVay, whose tree of disciples continues to take root across the NFL. Hopefully this partnership turns out to be fruitful for both sides as the Rams' season gets underway.
