The Los Angeles Rams are preparing for Sunday's NFC Wild Card playoff matchup against the Detroit Lions, yet they are still tweaking their postseason roster at the same time. One roster move they made has the fans scratching their heads.

Two days ago, the Rams waived defensive end Earnest Brown IV, who they drafted in the fifth round in the 2021 NFL Draft. In the last three seasons, Brown had played in 12 games for LA, recording 14 tackles. He played seven games this season.

The brutal part of the decision to waive him was the fact that it happened on Brown's 25th birthday. Three hours before waiving him, the Rams even wished him a happy birthday through their social media accounts.

Rams News: Earnest Brown Re-Signed After Being Cut on Birthday

Yet, this head-scratching saga continued the next day.

Yesterday, the Rams announced that they have signed Brown to the practice squad, a day after waiving him. They clearly want to keep Brown around and develop him. Yet, it's unclear whether being signed to the practice squad was enough to salvage Brown's ruined birthday.

Considering Brown has been a healthy scratch for most of the season, Los Angeles will likely not miss him. The Rams opened up a roster spot with this move and what they choose to do with that spot ahead of the playoffs remains to be seen.

Of course, a minor roster move like this doesn't move the needle on Sunday's game against the Lions either. The Rams remain 3-point underdogs despite playing at home.
