WATCH: Stetson Bennett Staying in Football Shape During Rams' Offseason
There's a total lack of clarity around what the Los Angeles Rams' quarterback depth chart will look like in 2024. We know Matthew Stafford is the starter, but beyond that is up in the air.
At the core of the uncertainty is 2023 fourth-round pick Stetson Bennett. The QB2 to start last season, Bennett has been away from football with little explanation offered up publicly by the Rams, and it's unclear whether he's expected to ever return or not.
Bennett seems to be preparing as if his NFL career will continue, however, having shared a video of him working out to stay in game shape this offseason.
Bennett, wearing blue in the video above, looks to be staying in good shape. We obviously can't read all that much into a few seconds of a workout highlight, but his physique doesn't look like someone who hasn't been working out since back in September.
It's hard to know how much we should read into Sean McVay's earlier comments that the Rams don't have a backup quarterback this offseason, but even if Bennett does return to action the Rams will have to add at least one more player at the position.
You can't expect a guy nearly a full year removed from playing football to immediately step back in and be an NFL-caliber backup, especially when he missed almost the entirety of his rookie season.
Some of the best backup quarterback options on the market have already signed with new teams for 2024, but if the Rams act quickly they should still be able to find a solid option to sit behind Stafford.
