The Los Angeles Lakers continue to live rent-free in some people's minds. A lot of NBA figures look for any opportunity to take a shot at the Lakers and one of those names is former Denver Nuggets and Sacramento Kings head coach George Karl.

When Karl was the head coach of the Seattle Supersonics, he was swept by the Lakers in 1995 and lost in five in 1998. When he was with Denver between 2004 and 2013, he consistently faced the Lakers in the Western Conference and came up short while Los Angeles made three straight NBA Finals and won two titles. In his best campaign with the Nuggets, he lost to the Lakers in the conference finals in 2009.

Now that you have the background for why Karl is acting like a sore loser, let's get to the latest shot he took at the Lakers.

George Karl Desperately Trying to Stay Relevant By Taking Shots At Lakers

After the 2024-25 NBA schedule was released, it was announced once again that the Lakers would have the most nationally televised games in the league with 39. As the most popular franchise in the NBA with the most popular player in LeBron James, the Lakers naturally have many national TV games.

Seemingly not understanding this, Karl is upset about this fact. He takes it a step further by claiming that the Lakers will win fewer games than their number of nationally televised games.

The Lakers went 47-35 last year and won 43 games the year prior. Winning under 39 games next season with the exact same roster would be a massive shock.

Yes, the Lakers offseason was frustrating as the fans expected more additions but it's important to note that this group was closer to a 50-win team than a sub. 500 team like Karl predicts.
