With Caleb Williams heading to the NFL, the USC Trojans have an opening at quarterback as they transition to the Big 10 next season. After his performance in the DirecTV Holiday Bowl, Miller Moss looked to be the logical choice, where he went off for 272 yards, six touchdowns, and an interception.

However, the Trojans added more depth to their quarterback room on Tuesday, picking up the Mountain West’s Freshman of the Year.

USC News: Jayden Maiava Flips Commitment From Georgia To USC

Former UNLV Rebels quarterback Jayden Maiava initially transferred to Georgia on Monday after jumping into the transfer portal on Jan. 2. However, Maiava’s father, William Maiava-Pratt, told ESPN on Tuesday that the young dual-threat quarterback will instead head to USC.

The former three-star prospect had an excellent 2023 season as he led the Rebels to a 9-5 record, a Mountain West title game berth, and a bowl game.

Maiava thrived in Brennan Marion’s Go-Go offense, completing 63.5 percent of his passes for 3,085 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He also had 277 rushing yards and three touchdowns. In his last game with the Rebels, Maiava went 24-of-35 for 291 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Maiava still has three years of eligibility left, giving the Trojans a quarterback for the present and future. Along with Williams, the Trojans saw 2023 No. 1 prospect Malachi Nelson transfer to Boise State.

It will be interesting to see how the quarterback competition plays out at USC, as Moss played outstanding in the bowl game, and Maiava is still scratching the surface of what kind of QB he can become.

Regardless of who starts for the Trojans next season, USC will be a long shot to win the national title as they will be in the Big 10.
