Why Dodgers Fans Shouldn't Worry About Yoshinobu Yamamoto's Early Struggles
The Los Angeles Dodgers dished out a massive 12-year, $325 million deal to Yoshinobu Yamamoto without seeing him toss a pitch in the majors.
Los Angeles wasn't alone in pursuit of Yamamoto but was able to lock him in. Fast forward a few months and the right-hander finally made his Dodgers debut.
Unfortunately for the 25-year-old, his first appearance didn't go well. Yamamoto took the hill against the San Diego Padres in Seoul, South Korea but he struggled massively.
He lasted just one inning, allowing five earned runs, four hits, and walking one batter.
Dodgers News: Yoshinobu Yamamoto Had His Troubles In Debut But No Need to Panic
This wasn't the way Yamamoto wanted to kick start his Dodgers career but there's no reason for the fanbase to get antsy.
It's only one start and the nerves could have been running through Yamamoto but it's a long season.
Scouts and executives have raved about his command and power on the mound. Yamamoto has the stuff to pile up K's and make things hard on batters. Just because that didn't happen in one start doesn't mean he won't bounce back. There's a reason he received that mega-deal.
Yamamoto is already looking forward to his next start. In a press conference with reporters after the game, Yamamoto said, "I know how to fix it, and I’m going to talk to my pitching coaches Mark [Prior] and Connor [McGuiness] and fix it for my next outing.”
He is already looking forward to his next start and improving his performance.
Regardless, the Dodgers are expected to be one of the best teams in the majors. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Los Angeles is a +165 favorite to win the National League. If you like these odds, head over to FanDuel Sportsbook and take advantage of your sign-up bonus.
