The Los Angeles Rams are building out their roster for next season. With NFL free agency officially underway, the Rams made their first big splash by signing star wide receiver Davante Adams to a two-year deal.

They had already taken care of their biggest order of business earlier in the offseason when they re-signed Matthew Stafford. On Monday, they brought back another veteran on the offensive side of the ball.

On Monday, NFL insider Mike Garafolo reported that the Rams are re-signing Jimmy Garoppolo to a one-year deal. Jimmy G, who spent last year as Stafford's backup, will continue in that role for 2025.

Garoppolo started last season suspended for the first two games of the season for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy. Upon his return, he didn't get a chance to see the field until the regular season finale. In Week 18, the Rams rested their key starters, and Garoppolo made his Rams debut, finishing the game with 27/41 passing for 334 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in the loss to the Seahawks.

Head coach Sean McVay had said earlier in the offseason that the Rams were prioritizing bringing back Jimmy G. This is not a surprise, as the 33-year-old signal-caller is one of the most experienced and competent backup quarterbacks in the league. Not only does he have 64 starts under his belt, going an impressive 43-21 in those games, but he also has extensive postseason experience, thanks to his time in San Francisco.

Considering Stafford's age, the Rams are wise to have a reliable QB2 behind him. Garoppolo is good enough to keep the Rams' offense afloat in any short-term absence for Stafford. While this is a good deal for both sides, it doesn't bode well for Stetson Bennett's future in Los Angeles.
