The Los Angeles Rams got back into the win column on Sunday, defeating the New England Patriots 28-22.

The Rams received an outstanding performance from their offense led by veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford. Stafford passed for 295 yards and four touchdowns.

However, one issue that showed up in Sunday’s road win that the Rams hope doesn’t linger throughout the second half of the season. Rookie kicker Joshua Karty was called upon in the first half to make a chip shot field goal from 26 yards out.

Heading into this week’s game, Karty didn’t miss a field goal between 20-29 yards. But his luck ran out against the Pats as his kick went right and hit off the post.

In the Rams’ Week 10 loss to the Miami Dolphins, the rookie kicker missed a 57-yard field goal, which isn’t the end of the world.

After the game, Rams head coach Sean McVay was asked about LA’s decision to punt in the fourth quarter. McVay’s answer was straight to the point and highlighted his feelings about the unit.

“There wasn’t a lot of reason to feel great about that operation today,” McVay said (h/t ESPN’s Sarah Bishop).

While McVay’s answer wasn’t exactly comforting, the good news for Karty is that he can bounce back next week in primetime against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Rams used a pick on Karty in the 2024 NFL Draft, so they believe in his leg and talent. He has to have a short memory like a pitcher and get back it in Week 12.
