The Los Angeles Rams suffered a major loss in Week 18 as rookie running back Blake Corum sustained a fractured forearm. Corum exited last week’s game against the Seattle Seahawks after logging three touches for 22 yards.

After their Week 18 loss to the Seahawks, Los Angeles head coach Sean McVay told reporters that the rookie running back would be out for the playoffs.  The Rams officially placed Corum on the reserve/injured list on Tuesday.

With Corum done for the playoffs, Los Angeles needs a solid RB2 behind Kyren Williams. They could’ve gone with the guys on the roster in Ronnie Rivers and Cody Schrader.

However, the Rams brought back a familiar face to the facility ahead of their wild-card matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. Los Angeles announced that they signed practice squad veteran Royce Freeman.

Additionally, Los Angeles designated veteran safety John Johnson III from injured reserve and released safety Quindell Johnson from the practice squad. It’s not a surprise to see the Rams go after Freeman as he spent last season with the team.

In 14 games with the Rams, the veteran running back produced 319 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 77 carries (4.1 YPC). The Rams did not re-sign Freeman, who signed with the Dallas Cowboys this past offseason.

Based on the Cowboys’ running back room, there was a thought that Freeman could win a job on the 53-man roster. However, that never happened as Dallas cut him ahead of the roster deadline.

After being cut by Dallas, Freeman was signed to the Cleveland Browns practice squad in September but was released a month later. The 28-year-old eventually joined the Chicago Bears practice squad last month, who did not sign him a futures/reserve contract.

Since Freeman knows how the Rams do things on offense, it shouldn’t take him long to get up to speed. However, since this is a win-or-go-home situation, it's unlikely that we’ll see the veteran running back as Williams will get most of the touches out of the backfield.
