Sean McVay Makes Big Matthew Stafford Reveal After Rams' Playoff Loss
The Los Angeles Rams' incredible turnaround of a season unfortunately ran out of magic on Sunday, as Sean McVay's squad fell 28-22 to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional Round. While L.A. getting to the playoffs was a major accomplishment considering how the year started, fans are still disappointed given this team's championship aspirations.
Now the Rams must immediately turn their attention to 2025 and how they can get back to the mountaintop. However, the team has several big questions to answer, including at quarterback, as the speculation around how much longer Matthew Stafford will play ramps back up.
Coming off of an incredible performance against the Eagles, though, it's clear Stafford still has enough left in the tank to win another Super Bowl. And McVay's postgame reveal about his quarterback makes Stafford's performance somehow even more impressive.
McVay told reporters that Stafford "got his rib early," indicating the QB suffered some kind of injury to his abdominal region. Yet, despite being "dinged up," Stafford gave Los Angeles a chance to win the game at the very end.
Stafford is no stranger to playing through pain, and his history with injuries is again a big reason the QB could opt to prioritize his health over playing several more years in the NFL.
However, the quarterback gutting through that to give the Rams that performance also highlights his insane competitive drive that's made him a QB anyone wants leading their team in the biggest of moments.
The former No. 1 pick almost notched yet another comeback win on Sunday with Los Angeles' season on the line. He took over at the Rams' own 18 and got L.A. all the way to Philly's 13-yard line with time ticking down, including an unbelievable deep throw to Puka Nacua that swung the momentum.
Yet, a false start, coupled with a sack and pressure allowed on the contest-deciding fourth down, got in the way of another game-winning drive from the storied quarterback.
Even though there are plenty of Stafford questions that need answering, anything regarding his talent or ability to will L.A. to victory is still as obvious as ever.
