With Super Bowl 59 officially in the books, the Los Angeles Chargers and the other 31 teams in the NFL are prepping for free agency next month. The Chargers are one of several teams that people expect to make a splash this offseason after making the playoffs in Jim Harbaugh’s first year as head coach.

One of the positions that Los Angeles must address in the offseason is wide receiver. Rookie Ladd McConkey had an outstanding first year in the NFL, recording 82 receptions (112 targets) for 1,149 yards and seven touchdowns (ranked second behind Quentin Johnston).

McConkey proved he’s the real deal after one season, but the Chargers should not depend on him to be the WR1 in the offseason. LA needs to go out and find a veteran to complement him in the passing game.

Cooper Kupp and Deebo Samuel are the top two trade targets that could be on the Chargers’ radar. However, another star wide receiver with AFC West ties could be a perfect match for LA’s offense.

On the Bill Simmons Podcast, Bill Simmons mentioned that he spoke to Miami Dolphins star receiver Tyreek Hill during Super Bowl week, trying to convince the veteran to join the New England Patriots.

That plea did not work, but Simmons said someone who was with Hill mentioned the Los Angeles Chargers.

“Somebody that was with him was like, ‘watch out for Chargers’ and walked off,” Simmons mentioned (h/t Alex Insdorf).

Surprisingly, some Chargers fans on social media said they don’t want any part of Hill on the team. However, the idea of Hill joining the Chargers’ wide receiver unit, makes them more dynamic and will open things up for McConkey.

The 30-year-old wide receiver had an underwhelming 2024 season, recording 81 receptions (123 targets) for 959 yards and six touchdowns. Despite not cracking 1,000 receiving yards, Hill is still someone defense have to account for with his speed.

The veteran wide out has a hefty cap hit for the 2025 ($28.7M) and 2026 seasons ($51.9M), making it not an easy trade. However, the Chargers are projected to have $63.4 million in cap space for 2025, per Over The Cap. Therefore, they would have the space to pursue a trade Hill or to throw the bag at Tee Higgins.
