The Los Angeles Lakers began training camp earlier this month in preparation for the 2024-25 season. Los Angeles made JJ Redick the head coach, while also bringing in Bronny James in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Bronny made his Lakers debut on Oct. 4 against the Minnesota Timberwolves in a preseason tilt. Despite this being the first real-game action with the entire team, his performance is already being nit-picked by former Laker Kwane Brown.

Lakers News: Kwane Brown Criticizes Bronny James

In the game, Bronny logged 16 mins, notching two points, one rebound, three blocks, and shot 1-of-6 from the field. Those numbers aren't eye-popping but Brown took his criticism over the top.

He believes since the Lakers gave Bronny a guaranteed deal, he is "coasting," and any other guy who played like that would have been cut.

"He don’t have an offensive rhythm right now so, s***, be young. Nobody can control you being able to run. But I see a kid just coasting because he has a guaranteed contract. Anybody else in that position would be cut."

Brown also added, "I can critique his game without bashing him."

This criticism is just over the top. Bronny didn't come into the league as a polished and finished product. Everyone knew he had his work cut out for him but he has the tools needed to be a quality player in the NBA.

Brown's statements are an overreaction. Bronny has played in just TWO preseason games and needs more time to develop. That was always the plan anyway.

It's also funny coming from a guy like Brown, who is widely known as one of the biggest draft busts in NBA history. Maybe he should keep these comments to himself and let the 20-year-old grow as an NBA player.
